Hawthorn’s nightmare season of 2009 was a mere blimp on the radar, according to punters with bookmaker Centrebet who have backed the Hawks from an opening $21.00 down to $11.00 to bounce back and re-claim the AFL flag in 2010!

Hawthorn’s nightmare season of 2009 was a mere blimp on the radar, according to punters with bookmaker Centrebet who have backed the Hawks from an opening $21.00 down to $11.00 to bounce back and re-claim the AFL flag in 2010!

Centrebet’s media chief Neil Evans said the Hawks had been smashed by “early bird” punters who decided $21.00 was ridiculous odds about the 2008 premiers, and unloaded nearly $15,000.00 in bets in the last few days! Hawthorn has leap-frogged both Collingwood and Carlton on Centrebet’s next season flag market!

“The Hawks have been the big mover already, with bets of $5000.00 at $12.00, $3,000.00 at $14.00 and two early wagers of $1500.00 and $1,000.00 both at the opening quote of $21.00,” Evans said. “There’s five times as many bets on the Hawks than any other club, and they’re tipping the family club to hit back with force in 2010!”

Evans said around $6,000.00 in bets had also been taken on Carlton, despite all the drama surrounding full forward Brendan Fevola, including one bet of $4,000.00 at $15.00!

The Adelaide Crows are also a team on the rise, according to punters, with plenty of bets taken at the $8.50 opening mark! “Do punters really believe these teams will be there on GF day in 12 months time, or are they just scooping up value?”

Neither of the big guns from Saturday’s epic grand final – Geelong or St Kilda – have been seriously touched at the opening quotes of $4.00, while the Magpies are unwanted in 2010 drifting from $13.00 out to $15.00!
